Colegio Maya is committed to creating a nurturing environment where students feel safe and empowered to be the best version of themselves. Our “Tribe” system supports this by giving students the opportunity to engage in meaningful and dynamic activities throughout the school year to build character, positive relationships and school spirit.

Tribes provide students with a sense of belonging. All students grade 6th through 12th belong to 1 of 4 tribes: Earth, Wind, Fire or Water. Throughout the year, each student’s personal accomplishments are rewarded with points that collectively count toward their Tribe overall points.

This gives students an opportunity to be recognized by their peers for their individual contributions to the team based on their personal strengths. 

The Tribes system promotes a sense of healthy competition in 4 different areas:

• Scholarship and culture
• Leadership and teamwork
• Service and citizenship
• Sportsmanship and character

At the beginning of each school year, members of each tribe vote to elect their Chiefs and Officers, who are responsible for leading their tribes in all competitions and activities.
